What to Expect at Your First Visit With a Hair Loss Specialist in Minneapolis
If you’ve never seen a hair loss specialist in Minneapolis before, you might be wondering what actually happens during the first appointment. Will it be awkward? Will they really be able to help? Is your situation “bad enough” to justify seeing someone?
If you’re noticing changes in your hair or scalp and it’s been bothering you, you’re in the right place.
Whether you’re dealing with flaking, thinning, patchiness, or something you can’t quite name yet, your concerns are valid. This post will walk you through what your initial consultation looks like with me, so you can feel prepared and comfortable walking in the door.
Before Your Appointment: A Little Homework
Once you book your consultation, you’ll receive a set of intake forms to complete before your visit. These cover your personal history, medical background, and some hair- and scalp-related questions.
It might seem detailed, but this info helps me prepare for your consultation before you even arrive. I review everything ahead of time so we can spend more time digging into your specific concerns and less time just gathering basics.
During Your Appointment: Let’s Talk
We’ll start by going through your background together. I want to hear what’s been going on, what you’ve tried, and how this is affecting you. The more I understand, the better I can guide you toward answers and solutions that actually fit your life.
There’s no judgment here — just a conversation where we work as a team to get clarity on what’s going on and where we might go next.
The Hands-On Part: Imaging + Scalp Analysis
Next, I’ll take a few photos of your hair and scalp. These are for reference and progress tracking down the line — so we can actually see how things change over time.
Then we’ll do a trichoscopic exam — that means using a handheld dermascope to take a closer look at your scalp skin and hair follicles. This gives us insight into what’s happening below the surface and can help reveal patterns or issues not visible to the naked eye.
Wrapping It Up: Your Personalized Plan
At the end of the appointment, we’ll talk through what we found and how it connects to what you’re experiencing. Based on that, I’ll create a personalized recommendation plan — whether that includes at-home treatments, lifestyle shifts, supplements, or referrals to other professionals.
You’ll get everything in writing after your visit so it’s easy to reference and follow.
After the Visit: What’s Next?
Hair and scalp issues don’t change overnight, which is why I recommend scheduling any follow-up appointments at least a month after your initial consult. That gives us time to see how your body is responding and adjust the plan if needed.
